I was so excited to have been back out on the STREETS taking pictures in my usual SoHo setting, Downtown. But to my dismay, when I finally saw the collection of pictures I had taken blown up on my computer screen, I realized that my camera settings had been completely wrong the entire week I had shot. I got upset with the few decent ones I managed to take and avoided them for days until I started to miss editing, the inspirations, and this new found voice I've seem to have discovered through my photographs and this silly little blog. So, I collected myself and got to work.
Usually I'm so taken back by the women and their loud creative presence here in the city it's hard to notice the men when I have my camera on the STREETS. However, the subtle details of the male wardrobe seem to have caught my eye most recently. From dressed up and tucked in, to casually soft and wrinkled, the men I feature above represent two types of styles I find inspiring: cozy and clean. I love when men take the chance to represent their interest in fashion and the details of their own specific style.
The hardware in the first two pictures really got my attention. I started picturing these guys browsing retail stores, spending money, and personalizing their own accessories. The buttery leather bag combined with this creamy bald head and and navy blazer could've been better represented at a greater distance and better angle (which almost killed me when I saw how blurry the shot came out.) The worst was the confusion in lighting in the second picture with the somber man with cheeks bones that could slice a cake. His outfit was pristine and perfectly put together. But the hilarity of the gelato mixed with the masculine undertone of this man was too good not post. I lovedddd picturing him putting on his silver banded rings in the morning going through some calm routine of perfection before going out into the city like it's an everyday walk in the park.
While the bottom three are definitely my favorite as far as representing my photography skills and the cozy/laid-back style (especially because they're black and white...I mean obviously), I loved the dude in the embellished backpack and John Lennon shades. Pink hair? Possibly. I'm not totally sure on that one, BUT this guy represented everything tasty about NYC street style. You could find half of this guy's wardrobe at
Michaels and yet he still manages to represent his own creative style in a way that people admire. He even wears a blinding white helmet that you barely even notice is worn for the practical use of safety and cranium protection.
Casual and cuffed, lazy and tied up in smoke, or pristine and hungry, all of these men represent their very own sense of creative and artistic style that no one else can pull off in quite the same way.
